Substance Use Technician

Job Classification: Non-exempt

Qualifications:

  • Possess a High School diploma, GED, or a minimum of two years lived recovery experience. An Associates degree in human services or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one-year experience providing direct client care to culturally diverse clients experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification through the Friendship House, Inc.
  • Be capable of accurately following written and verbal instructions.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively; orally, typed, and written.
  • Although being in substance abuse recovery is not a requirement, having the knowledge of chemical dependency and the treatment/recovery process is. If previously chemically dependent, a minimum of at least one year of continued sobriety, and/or free of chemicals, is required.
  • Possess a valid drivers license; possess insured and reliable transportation.
  • Be able to pass a series of background checks.

Physical Responsibilities:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
    and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to climb a long flight of stairs frequently during shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Complete documentation in accordance with established standards, including incident reports, and other data in residents electronic health record, in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Attend staff meetings, training meetings and in-service meetings.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid training on a yearly basis.
  • Ensure confidentiality according to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and 42 C.F.R. part 2.
  • Document client activities in the electronic shift change reports.
  • Help residents complete initial non-clinical paperwork upon admission, using the electronic health record.
  • Assist with new client orientation to the treatment program.
  • Facilitate non-clinical activities to include educational, cultural, recreational and social activities.
  • Contribute to fostering a trauma-informed and culturally competent environment.
  • Conduct room and person searches as instructed as needed.
  • Collect urinalysis specimens and facilitate testing with a Breathalyzer as assigned as needed.
  • Transport and supervise clients when necessary, following vehicle operation and safety procedures as needed.
  • Monitor the sign in/ sign out sheet in regards to peoples destinations while on level one, and/or restriction, the accuracy of their times listed on time left and time expected to return, and whether they are marking names when they return.
  • Monitor the completion/non-completion of clients daily house chores.
  • Perform bed checks as scheduled to insure that all residents are accounted for and the house is safe from any problems that are preventable (such as fire, plumbing problems, etc).
  • Pack up belongings of a resident who was not able to take belongings with them when they left, or if they are unaccounted for (client elopement). Place the belongings in a locked and secure area of Friendship House.
  • Monitor the physical safety of the facility in regards to danger including but not limited to unauthorized visitors, clients/or visitors under the influence of drugs/and or alcohol, fires, maintenance concerns, violence or threats of violence, etc.
  • Wash, sort, and fold the bedding after a client has left the Friendship House.
  • Perform cleaning duties as needed.
  • Perform daily dorm room checks for cleanliness.
  • Be available to cover additional shifts as able.
  • Assist residents in completing assigned duties and cover mandatory duties when a resident fails to complete as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Executive Director or Supervisor.
