Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Step into a meaningful role supporting elementary students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the 2026-2027 academic year. This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals dedicated to fostering inclusion and accessibility within an energetic school environment. The assignment is fully onsite, offering either full-day (7:45am–3:15pm) or afternoon-only (11:00am–3:15pm) schedules to fit your availability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Desired:

  • Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, particularly within educational or child-focused settings
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and ability to facilitate clear communication between students, staff, and peers
  • Certification/Licensure to interpret in educational settings; a provisional license is acceptable for candidates with EIPA below 4.0
  • Strong understanding of elementary-level content and age-appropriate communication techniques
  • Professionalism, punctuality, and discretion in handling confidential information
  • Empathy, patience, and enthusiasm for encouraging student development and self-expression

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation services to elementary students, ensuring full participation in classroom activities, discussions, and school events
  • Bridge communication between students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, teachers, and classmates
  • Collaborate with teachers and school staff to support individualized educational plans as needed
  • Adapt interpreting techniques to accommodate different learning preferences and settings
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere for all students
