Senior UX Designer – Public Sector (GDS)
Location: London (Hybrid)
Salary: Up to £76,000 + 10% Bonus
A leading global design and innovation consultancy is seeking a Senior UX Designer to shape accessible, inclusive digital services for UK government clients. You’ll play a key role in multidisciplinary teams, delivering impactful solutions aligned to GDS service standards and used by millions across the country.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead end-to-end UX design through discovery, alpha, beta, and live phases
- Apply accessibility and inclusive design principles across public-facing services
- Collaborate with service designers, developers, policy and content teams
- Produce wireframes, journey maps, blueprints, and interactive prototypes
- Conduct user research, usability testing, workshops, and design playback sessions
- Define UX strategy, influence design systems, and ensure alignment through delivery
- Support GDS assessments and mentor junior designers
What You’ll Bring
- 8+ years’ experience in UX, interaction, or digital product design
- Hands-on public sector experience with GDS-aligned delivery
- Proven track record across the full design lifecycle (discovery to live)
- Expert in Figma, Adobe CC, Miro, and familiarity with HTML/CSS for dev handoff
- Strong grasp of WCAG 2.2, inclusive design, and accessibility best practices
- Experience with Salesforce-based service design is highly desirable
- Eligible for SC Clearance (British or equivalent, 5 years UK residency)
- Comfortable using low-code, auto-layout, or AI-based design tools
- Understanding of public service metrics such as conversion and channel shift
- A portfolio showcasing leadership across complex digital services
