Position Overview:
Our nursing staff operates within collaborative settings alongside robust interdisciplinary teams, emphasizing a patient-centered care approach in a richly diverse environment. Under the guidance and general oversight of the Nurse Manager, registered nurses apply evidence-based practices in alignment with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and directives from the medical staff. Utilizing their knowledge and skills, registered nurses employ the nursing process to create care plans that address the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
Experience: At least one (1) year of experience or successful completion of the Nurse Residency Program at The William W. Backus Hospital.
License and Certification: Must hold a current, unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire, with the ability to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in the relevant clinical area.
License and Certification: Certification in the clinical specialty area, such as CNOR certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Fundamental understanding of nursing principles and practices. Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions. Effective communication skills to relay technical or complex information and instructions. Strong interpersonal abilities to interact with departments, staff, physicians, managers, and patients. Capacity to manage multiple priorities, demonstrate flexibility, and work collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment. Commitment to exceptional customer service. Basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Requires a high level of analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources. Capable of taking appropriate actions in response to changes, challenges, problems, and emergency situations. Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
