CNC Mill Setup Machinist – Mid Shift

Job Summary

We’re looking for an experienced CNC Mill Setup Machinist to join our Mid Shift team. This role is responsible for setting up vertical CNC mills, performing on‐control program edits, and ensuring high‐quality production machining.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC mills for production jobs
  • Prove out setups and perform first‐piece inspections
  • Troubleshoot, edit, and optimize programs at the control (primarily G‐code)
  • Document program changes and setup steps for repeatability and efficiency
  • Maintain part quality throughout the machining cell
  • Plan tooling needs in advance to reduce downtime
  • Apply proper feeds, speeds, cutter comp, and modern machining strategies
  • Inspect and deburr parts using appropriate measuring tools; verify all features meet blueprint and GD&T requirements
  • Assist in building jigs and fixtures to improve workflow and productivity
  • Operate equipment safely and prevent machine damage
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance and keep the work area clean
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of independent CNC mill setup and operation in a job‐shop environment
  • Strong understanding of CNC programming structure, tooling theory, and speeds/feeds
  • Experience with Fanuc controls preferred
  • Manual programming or on‐control editing experience is a plus
  • Experience with horizontal mills (e.g., Makino) helpful but not required
  • Ability to read blueprints and inspect critical dimensions; strong GD&T skills preferred
  • Personal measuring tools are a plus (company can supply and calibrate if needed)
  • Comfortable working with a wide variety of complex parts
  • Ability to adapt to changing production schedules
