Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Perform orthopaedic surgical procedures and clinics on patients referred to the Peninsula Treatment Centre and satellite sites, adhering to centre protocols and practices.
  • Conduct joint surgeries including primary knee arthroplasty, primary hip cemented & hybrid, and primary hip uncemented.
  • Handle minor orthopaedic surgeries such as arthroscopy of the knee, Carpal Tunnel Release, minor hand procedures, joint aspiration/injection, and other minor musculoskeletal procedures.
  • Cover preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative activities, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
  • Provide out of hours on-call cover on a rota basis, with minimal senior call anticipated.
  • Engage in outpatient consultations prior to surgery and participate in all aspects of peri-operative care.
  • Spend approximately two to three days in the operating theatre and two days a week in outpatient assessment, administrative, management, and clinical governance duties.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable high level of operative skill in areas such as primary hip replacement, primary knee replacement, or arthroscopic procedures, with substantial experience in these surgeries.
  • Excellent clinical quality record and efficiency in theatre.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, clinical care pathways, and patient management.
  • Willingness to engage in audit, research, and management of the service.
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision to junior medical and other clinical staff.
